Rugby is back in Benghazi

It’s amazing to see the rugby team resume their training at their Benghazi Bakraj rugby training camp after almost 5 years of closure. The Bakraj training camp is located in the Beloun area, only 1 mile away from the US Consulate in benghazi, since the tragic attack in 2012 on the US consulate, and the start of war against extimests, the area was closed off and no longer accessible do to fighting.

Since the End of “Operation Dignity” against the Islamists, normal Life has been restored to Benghazi, and with the help of good samaritans and local support, the Bakraj training ground was finally rebuilt and the rugby team finally resumed training there in 2018.

This documentary trailer on the right will give you a glimpse into the struggles the rugby team had to endure and overcome.

We all remeber how the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa was a able to unite a nation that was torn apart by a system of institutionalised racial segregation that existed from 1948 until the early 1990s. Even though the problem in libya isn’t exactly racial driven, but more of  a triable war for power, but this doesn’t undermine the impotence of the lessons that can be learned from Nelson Mandela’s south africa example, and the great power sports have to unite a nation. #WePlayForUnity
