This is not Bora Bora, nor the Bahamas, this is the sandy beach of the coastal town of Brega west of Benghazi. Libya is located in North Africa and has a 1,770 km of Mediterranean coastline, this has its advantages of course, blue turquoise worm waters and lots of sunshine.
Brega beach is only an example, but there are hundreds of kilometres of great sandy beaches to explore. I can start listing them but i this list will be extremely long, but here are a few in no percolator order: Ra’s Al Hilal, Dryana, Jarotha, Bu’ Fakra, Ras El Kabesh, Garyounis
But there is a catch that many of you might find it to be a positive, all of this coastline has no international resorts like the Four seasons or the Westin . You have two choices either stay at one of the locally established resorts, or (here is the positive thing) camping and sleeping under the stars. Imagine a two day camping trip with nothing but the entire beach to yourself, swimming, fishing BBQing, playing beach sports with your friends, and strumming your guitar under the open sky.
Before you get packing you should understand that the situation in Libya is still unstable, and you should consider checking with your countries foreign affairs office for travel advisories. Here are some travel advisories for you: Government of Canada, U.S Department of state, EU CONSULAR PROTECTION
Yes i know almost all the countries as of writing this post will tell you to (AVOID ALL TRAVEL) and you should, the point of this post is not to get you to come to Libya or Benghazi now, but to consider the potential this country has to one day become one of the top travel destinations on the Mediterranean. This day is not far, as long as we look at the positive side of every story and build on it, but yet learning from the negatives and never repeating them.
I want to take this opportunity to appeal to investors to consider investing in Libya, and Benghazi. The idea might seem absurd at first, but consider the following; land is very cheap to lease/own, tax is extremely low, and no major landscape modification is needed. Security is the only big issue at the moment, but the first presidential elections are near, once a strong government is appointed along with a strong judicial system, and a revamped army, I believe in the security issue will be partly resolved. Again i’m not saying start building your 5 star resort today, but only plan for the future.
